office 365 provsioining in a cross forest scenario

Hi Friends,

Let me explain you the scenario. There is this organization which has multiple entities spread aross multiple AD forest. There are two projects that are required to be undertaken

1) Consolidation of all AD forest by creatiing a single forest and single domain. A new forest will be created for this into which all existing forest objects will be migrated or copied.

2) Migration of existing email organizations in the existing forest to the cloud

Can you please suggest what is the exact process i need to follow. The user accounts in all the existing/legacy AD forest will be first migrated to the new AD forest. SID history will be enabled so that users can login to their source AD to access the resources.

Where i am stuck is with migration of existing email environment to exchange online. Can i directly migrate the users in each forest to Office 365/Exchange online ?

Consider forest A as the target forest and forest 1, 2, 3, 4 etc as the existing forest. I am copying the user account associated with say a user Mark (member of Forest 1) to the target forest A as part of AD consolidation. Mark has his mailbox in the onpremise exchange 2010 platform in Forest 1.

How do i move the mailboxes in the Forest 1 to exchange online which is authenticated to Forest A. Should i use third party tools or is this possible with native MS tools? more importantly i am interested in the process that i need to follow.

Also just to reiterate, since there is AD consolidation happening parallely, in the end state, all user accounts will be present in the new AD forest and all legacy forest will be decommissioned.

Can someone please help me here

Regards,

New cert required for deploy office 365 hybrid on existing exchange 2010?

Dear all

We want to deploy the existing exchange 2010 (CAS/Hub + MBX) to the office 365 hybrid deployment.

I will setup a ADPF server and Active directory sync server. All servers will setup in internal network.

So, as we already have a SSL cert on CAS server, do I need to create another cert for office365?

On the other hand, seems I need to prepare a public IP for the CAS/Hub server to communicate with Office 365. Do this IP need to publish at external DNS?

Thanks

Manual configuration of Outlook to Office 365

Current situation:

  • We have a team of 20 people running Outlook 2010 connected to an internal Exchange Server.
  • Incoming mail is now delivered to Postini, which filters out spam and forwards to our internal Exchange server.
  • We have set up Office365 for all of our users, and we have a working synch job that is replicating all email from our local servers to the cloud (with about a 24-hour delay).
  • We rely on email for communication with our clients and so we cannot afford any major snafus with the cutover to the cloud.

What I'd like to do:

  • I want to make sure that there are no unforeseen problems, so I would like to change a single user's Outlook settings to point to the Office365 server rather than our local one.
  • I understand that this one user won't see the most recent emails and outgoing emails might be tricky.  This is a test just to make sure that the .ost file handles the move smoothly, etc.

My Problem:

  • Using the automatic configuration approach recommended in the Office365 support pages doesn't work, because my MX records aren't pointed to Office365 yet -- and on my network, it just defaults to the local exchange server.
  • I cannot find the URL to the Office365 server to manually set up an Outlook account.  I tried the podxxxx.outlook.com address that I found in the POP/IMAP/SMTP settings, but that doesn't work.

Is there a way for me to test this before we switch the DNS records and make the big leap?

PST Capture Tool - what speeds should we expect

I am using the PST Capture tool to import pst files into O365.  What speeds should I expect for these transfers?  At what point does Microsoft throttle the inbound files?

Is the only way to get multiple PST's importing to set up multiple PST Capture servers?

In this scenario what would be the maximum number of active threads into the MS data centre?

Many thanks

Zimbra migration

I am testing batch migrations from Zimbra to Office 365.  I ran one sucessful migration to test connectivity to the server etc.  In the CSV file, I supplied the user's information and password.  No issues with the migration - worked as it should.

I am trying to setup my batch CSV files using administrator credentials so I do not need to know every student's password on Zimbra.  The administrator account has the necessary permissions to access the student mailboxes.  What format is needed in the CSV file for to use the administrator credentials?  I have tried what is mentioned here: http://help.outlook.com/en-US/140/ee730334.aspx  However, Zimbra did not like the format adminuser@my.email*student@my.email format and the batch failed.  I used the adminuser's password in the CSV file. Could anyone share what they have tried in the batch CSV file to use administrator credentials?

Slow exchange migration from off site hosted exchange

I have been poking around here in the forums and all over the internet for a while and have been unable to get what I want to do working...

Summary of the situation:

We have about 60ish accounts that need to get moved from a hosted 2003 Exchange, to Office 365 Exchange

In the desire to get Lync up and running, All the accounts have been created in Office 365, and all users have used Lync.

I have set the domain in the exchange configuration to be 'Shared'

Goal:

In order to be safe, and deal with a number of users paranoia around changing, I want to slowly move people to office 365, while leaving the old hosted exchange running (ie no MX change for a while).

I can very easily set a forward on the old exchange to forward the mail to the user in 365.

I can check the email in 365, and have outlook configuration working fine.

Problem:

When I send a new mail ( I know the reply to old mail issue that does still need to be fixed), I see four things that happen.

1. Via web access, I can type in a users email address NOT click on the resolve/check name and send it.  IF they do not have an active Exchange package on the user, it will correctly send it to them on the old system.

2. Via web access, I can type in a users email address, and the name resolves (whether checking or just remembering) and I get an error:

The e-mail address you entered couldn't be found. Please check the recipient's e-mail address and try to resend the message. If the problem continues, please contact your helpdesk.
     IMCEAEX-_O=EXCHANGELABS_OU=EXCHANGE+20ADMINISTRATIVE+20GROUP+20+28FYDIBOHF23SPDLT+29_CN=RECIPIENTS_CN=Fb076d1fb88d43e681740f2ba2c5b8f0-username@namprd04.prod.outlook.com

     #550 5.1.1 RESOLVER.ADR.ExRecipNotFound; not found ##
(It looks to be trying to find the exchange acct for someone that does not have an exchange account right now)

3. Any email sent via Outlook produces the above error (if sent to someone on the same domain that is not set up in 365 exchange).

4. users in the 365 exchange receive the emails no problem from owa or exchange, but have the same sending issue as I describe above.

I am hoping, that I do not have to do everyone in one weekend, cause something will likely be missed and someone will have a fit, and I will have a week of email support coming at me.  I would really like to be able to slowly do this, but if I am unable to send emails to folks using the MX record and NOT exchange, I fear I may have to...

Any ideas on what I am missing?  Any help is appreciated.

How do I force the e-mail migration tool to synch the IMAP and Exchange servers?

I am doing an email migration of a single user from an IMAP server to Office 365 using the e-mail migration tool of Exchange Online.  The initial migration was successful, but the migration tool has not synced the IMAP and Exchange servers in the last 24 hours as advertised.  I would like to finish the migration so that the user can switch from using the IMAP instance to Office 365.  But I need to force a final sync so that the changes made in the IMAP account since the bulk migration are mirrored on the Exchange server.  How do I do that, please?

Thanks,

Problems Migrating mailboxes - Unable to provision jobs from the current recipient. The owner recipient isn't a valid user.

Hi,

I was asked to start a dedicated thread for this issue after asking supplementaries on another thread.

I am running a batch migration for a domain and most of the mailboxes migrated successfully.

However I got this message for 7 users:

<> <>  <>        <>

Unable to provision jobs from the current recipient. The owner recipient isn't a valid user.

I am also receiving a message fro a number of users that I deleted from the Office 365 system after starting this migration:

A cloud-based mailbox wasn't found for "<username>". Create a mailbox for "<username>" in the cloud-based organisation and try again.

Following a suggestion from Jolin Qiao I have taken the following actions:

  1. Deleted the users for whom I did not want cloud based mailboxes from the in-house exchange server
(their mailboxes were 'marked for deletion')
  • Ran the CleanUp Agent in Exchange System Manager.
The 'deleted' mailboxes are now marked with a red dot/cross
  • Created a new user in the O365 system for one of the mailboxes that is failing with the
    'Unbable to provision jobs...' message.
  • Edited the batch migration job but didn't actually change any values.
  • Clicked the 'Resume' button.
  • After a few minutes I clicked on the 'Refresh' button and the batch job had a status of 'Synced'.

I still had all the same errors :(

This is urgent now as I am planning to complete the migration on Fri/Sat this week.

What are "Skipped Items"?

$

The e-mail migration tool within the Exchange Online control panel has enabled us to migrate mailboxes from a legacy imap system to Office 365.

Some of the user mailboxes have reported a number of "skipped items".

Is there anyway of getting a report out of the migration that tells us which items were skipped?

I have looked at the GUI and have not found a way of identifying the skipped items.  I have also tried the powershell cmdlets get-migrationuserstatistics, get-migrationbatch, get-migrationstatus and get-migrationuser.  None of these appear to give me details on the specific items skipped.

I know that one reason for skipping items is if they are larger then 25Mb.  So one apprach is to go back to the source mailbox and serach for all emails >25Mb.  Are there any other reasons why an email will be skipped?

Hi, I have a hybrid deployment with Exchange 2010 and Office 365. I am attempting to move a mailbox from Office 365 back to the local on-premises server. The migration proceeds as normal, but fails at the end. Investigating the logs gives the following:

What is the Hybrid Migration Cmdlet?

Can anyone tell me which command I should use to migrate multiple users in a hybrid environment?

New-MigrationBatch or New-MoveRequest?

It seems that New-MigrationBatch can only be used in an IMAP migration, is that correct?

Migrating from GMail via IMAP Duplicating Inbox Items

Hello everyone,

I did a search here but didn't seem to find a similar question in the forums.  When using the migration tool connecting to my existing Google Apps For Business account it worked great, but the main issue I saw is that Inbox items (and ONLY the inbox was creating duplicate messages in O365) This isn't a huge issue for the account I tested, but if we decided to go forward with moving to O365 some users have thousands of messages in their Inbox.  This is ONLY the Inbox, subfolders (labels) from Gmail only have one copy of the message, sent items, deleted items, junk items all only have one copy of the item.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you,

How to upload calendar items from android phone to exchange

One of our accounts had an android phone where he has had a local calendar.  We would like to upload that to the exchange server.  I know how to do it from a pst file on a computer, but this only resides on the phone.  Synchronization of new items works fine.  How can this be done?

MapiExceptionShutoffQuotaExceeded: IExchangeFastTransferEx.TransferBuffer failed (hr=0x80004005, ec=1245))

Hi All,

We encountered the below error multiple times when offboarding users to Exchange 2007.

Error: MapiExceptionShutoffQuotaExceeded: IExchangeFastTransferEx.TransferBuffer failed (hr=0x80004005, ec=1245))

When doing the same for that user but using a mailbox database on the Exchange 2010 Hybrid server, the move will complete successfully.

When searching on the internent their are answers about removing an altrecipient or changing the database so it uses "Use Default Database Quota" but this doesn't work for us.

Does anybody encountered this and found a working solution?

Thanks

Successful email migration but need to do over

Just completed a (staged) email migration for a single user mailbox, but I need to do it over again (some of the content did not get migrated properly - a fault of our on-prem 3rd party email archive system, no fault of Exchange Online). What is the best way to proceed with starting over for that mailbox? I have not converted the user to a MEU yet (mailbox still exists on-prem). We are using DirSync and SSO. Here is what I was planning:

* Delete the targetAddress value in the user's active directory profile

* Export from Exchange Online mailbox to PST file any emails the user has received since being migrated

* Import those emails into their on-prem exchange mailbox

* Delete the Exchange Online mailbox

* Fix my on-prem archive problem

* Restart the migration for the user's mailbox

Does anyone see a problem with those steps?

Migrating/Importing from Entourage 2008 Web to Office365

We currently have several Macs with Entourage 2008 running with an Exchange Server 2003 and are getting ready to migrate over to Office 365.

Once we update the Macs to Entourage 2008 Web Services Edition, how do we migrate over all of their email and calendars from the current Exchange Server 2003 to Office 365?

We can get the .pst files from the Exchange Server, but I don't think Entourage 2008 will allow the import of .pst files.

We have tried the cutover migration, but after numerous hours and attempts, we cannot get the Exchange Server to connect with Office 365 for the migration.

Any help would be appreciated, as we were hoping to do the migration this weekend if possible.

Multi-forest AD - Hybrid deployments not supported?

We are looking to migrate our Exchange 2003 environment to Office 365.

Currently we have an Account Domain for our main 'AD' accounts (eg accounts.domain.com), and a resource domain which has the Exchange mailboxes (eg resource.local).  The account domain would be DirSynced to O365, with the mail from the resource domain being migrated into the corresponing account in O365 via the O365 Migration Tool, by matching on the Primary E-Mail.

We were hoping to implement a Hybrid deployment, but I notice on Technet (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh852414.aspx), that...

"Multi-forest Active Directory environments. If your organization implements multiple forests for logon or resource segmentation, Exchange hybrid deployment is not supported."

Does anyone have any idea if 'not supported' in this context means "it could work but we won't support you with it if you have problems", or whether it means "it plain won't work, so don't bother trying"?  Or whether this even applies to our situation, where all the accounts themselves are actually in one domain?

PST Capture tool does not populate users from Office 365

I'm using PST Capture to import mailboxes to our new Office 365 account. We have PSTs of the on-premise mailboxes exported from Exchange Server 2010 SP1 server (which we plan to decommission once the migration is successfully complete). Note that the tool successfully discovers the PSTs in our environment.
I am facing two major issues here:

1. When I click on "Set Mailbox" in the Cloud Import List, the user's Exchange Online account to which I want to bind a particular mailbox PST does not pop up. I have no clue why. Any idea?

2. When I try to do "Import Selected Files Now", I get an error as highlighted in the screenshot:

I use DirSync to synchronize my local Active Directory with Office 365. Also, why does it show "*.onmicrosoft.com in the "Destination Mailbox" column in the above picture? Why doesn't it use my verified domain? I have a verified domain. Any help will be highly appreciated. Thanks!

Autodiscover and Hybrid Configuration Wizard

Hello,

I have a customer that has a limitation in buying a Single Name Certificate for hybrid deployment, in our setup we used a certificate hybrid.domain.com.br, and our environment is an Exchange 2007 with Exchange 2010 hybrid exchange server.

I had set up the autodiscover with SRV records, all went fine, until I found out that this autodisconver configuration isn't supported.

Because we have recently bought the certificate and as I said before we can use only a single name I've been thinking about using the name autodiscover.domain.com.br as the subject of the certificate.

We won't use single URL for OWA, instead our migrates users will connect directly to exchange online, but our mail routing to Exchange online will use this name and certificate, I would like to know if someone has ever configured an environment like this or if there is any other limitation on the certificate name for TLS that is the other usage for this certificate.

MX Record with existing local Exchange configuration

Hello,

we have a local Exchange 2003 envirnonment, that hosts actually all the mailboxes. In addition we have a new Exchange 2010 Server for the hybrid scenario. Public DNS is hosted by 1&1 and there are already existing MX records for the public IP adress from the smarthost. What is the best way to change the MX record to point on Office 365 - users should´t notice anything. How does the mail flow change, when an external Email arived for a mailbox hosted on Exchange 2003/2010 on-Premise?
