Retro fitting a hybrid server to an existing deployment

Due to being in a multi forest scenario and hybrid servers not being supported in this configuration we already have an office 365 deployment with a large number of mailboxes, utilizing ADFS for single sign on with no hyrbrid server or rich co-existance.

We are consoldating into a single domain/forest and for a number of reasons will be deploying a new Exchange 2010 infrastructure in our remaining forest for on premise exchange. This is the same forest which contains all our existing office 365 users and where ADFS resides.

My question is when deploying this new Exchange Environment in this forest, if we perform a hybrid installation and point this to a tenancy which already contains many thousands of mailboxes how will this behave and is this even possible?

If anyone has any experience in this area any comments or feedback on issues encountered would be great.

Manage Hybrid Configuration Error - Federation information could not be received from the external organization

Trying to figure out the what part is failing on this.  Below is the error message from MHCW and the log file. It looks like the first error in the log is:

ERROR:System.Management.Automation.RemoteException: This operation is not available in current service offer.

The second error:

ERROR:System.Management.Automation.RemoteException: Federation information could not be received from the external organization.

I don't know where to go from here to get this fixed.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Decommissioning on-prem hybrid server

Hello:

I've gotten all mailboxes moved & my MX record points to the cloud. At this point, we're ready to break the hybrid relationship and go cloud only.

We have a single exchange 2010 sp2 server, configured with the hybrid config wizard.

I can't seem to find a consistent answer on the forums. Some say that it's incredibly difficult to decom our server, others say that it's not a problem.

So, what's required on our end? To remove the Organization Federation, uninstall Exchange on-prem and to set the domain in ECP on O365 to Hosted instead of Shared?

thanks

Configure new Outlook profiles pointing to Office 365 prior to migrating user mailboxes.

We are in process of migrating our Exchange 2007/2010 Server environment to office 365 in a couple of weeks.  We will move all mailboxes over a weekend.  One obstacle we are facing is we would like to configure new secondary Outlook profiles that point to office 365 prior to the migration weekend, since many of our users take their laptops with them and will not leave them for the weekend to get reconfigured after all the mailboxes have been moved. We are not completing a hybrid deployment, just straight to O365, and we will keep our Exchange 2010 server around for DL management, and potential future SSO.

In some research on the forums it looks like we could use the testdomain.onmicrosoft.com that comes by default with office 365 to preconfigure the profiles for our users.  Though not sure if this is feasible since there will be no mailboxes at Office 365, until we actually migrate the mailboxes.

As a test we created a new mailbox in office 365 at our testdomain.onmicrosoft.com, and created a new Outlook profile, which worked with the o365 autodiscover for our testdomain.  Though my question is what happens when I actually migrate the user's onpremise mailbox? does it overwrite the testdomain.onmicrosoft.com account and outlook works? I am assuming no.

basically what are my options to preconfigure new O365 Outlook profiles for my users prior to migrating them, so they can work in Outlook 2010 after the migration without our team's manual reconfiguration?

I know we can have them use OWA, but some our Executive team is making this more difficult for us.

 :-)

thanks,

Imported PST in OUTLOOK but the imported mails does not appear on office 365..

Dear pros,

After following instructions to view old emails in 0ffice 365.

I successfully configured my outlook for office 365 and also imported my PST and saw all the previous e-mails inside outlook. NOW when I login to office 365, the imported mails do not appear on office 365 mailbox.

Have I missed any procedures? why the mails were not synced?

-Thanks guys

My client has asked us to migrate their Exchange enivornment to office 365. they are currently in a coexistence setup with Exchange 2007 and Exchange 2010. All mailboxes are on exchange 2007 except for 9 mailboxes which are on 2010.

We have deployed the Directory Sync tool already, because they want to move a subset of users to the cloud for testing prior to the full migration. Since Exchange 2010 cant be part a staged migration, and we dont want to have a hybrid deployment, then what are my options for migrating users on the Exchange 2010 Server?

With 2007 we will just use the ECP, with  CSV files to move the data, but what about 2010 exchange?

Sorry I am researching this since we have not done a migration with Exchange 2010, just Exchange 2003 and 2007, so not sure of all the nuances for moving 2010 mailboxes to the cloud.

The final goal is to have all mailboxes in the cloud and exchange 2010 around for DL management, or potentially a future hybrid setup, if they grow to large.

Thanks,

DC

Migrating from an old domain name to a new one with email

Hello O365,

We have changed the name of our company and the domain name also changed (from corridorconsulting.com to corridorcompany.com).  We need to 1) migrate the email (including calendar and all the other Outlook/Exchange objects) and 2) setup the appropriate MX records (I believe) such that emails that would go to the former domain name are now automatically redirected to the new email account in the new domain name.  Migrating the email should not be a problem; however, what is the best technique from an Office365 point of view for redirecting the email from the emails on the old domain name to the emails on the new domain name?

Hope this makes sense.

Thanks,

Russ

All of my deleted and sent emails are being taken out of their respected folders.  I chose to not auto-archive these folders so that i can see all of my emails within these folders forever.  but now after syncing has been done with office 365 all of those emails are not in these folders anymore.  Where did they go?  I right click properties in outlook and see that auto-archive is not set up.  i have gone from 13800 deleted emails to 380.  Please help

Hi

I recently set up a new hybrid deployment using the Manage hybrid configuration wizard successfully.  Now I have issues when I try to move users to the cloud with the “Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation” error when I used the New remote move request

I have checked Autodiscover services with Online test connectivity, the MRSProxyenabled is set to True, the authentication method for EWS is set to Ntlm, WindowsIntegrated and  WSSecurity and I also check the handler mappings and the SVC-integrated is present in the EWS folder in the IIS

I’m running out of options??

Can you help me with this??

Thanks!!!

Free busy information not appearing cross-premise

I have a hybrid deployment , exchange 2010 sp2 onsite, using adfs.  all mail is routed through the online instance.

all but one of my active users are in the cloud, all rooms and service mailboxes are onsite.  when scheduling meetings none of my cloud users can see the availability of the remaining onsite user any rooms for the meeting, and no rooms show up in the room finder in outlook.

i have gone through the basic troubleshooting suggested elsewhere in the forums and can find no errors. i have checked the organizational relationships for both the onsite and cloud exchange instances, both show that free busy access is enabled with limited details.  i can open the individual calendars for the rooms if i open them manually but it does not appear in the scheduling assistant or the room finder.

also the one user still in the on premise instance cannot see free / busy information for any other users.

not exactly sure what/where else to check for issues.  guidance would be appreciated.

Failure running the Hybrid configuratoin wizard.

Hi.

I having trouble setting up the hybrid.

The update-hybridconfiguration throws the error:

ERROR:Updating hybrid configuration failed with error 'Subtask CheckPrereqs execution failed: Creating Organization Relationships.

What i noticed is that the federation trust don't have an "Application Identifier" or a "Application URI"

No errors are shown when running the commands:

Set-FederationTrust -RefreshMetadata -Identity 'Microsoft Federation Gateway'
Set-FederatedOrganizationIdentifier -DelegationFederationTrust 'Microsoft Federation Gateway' -AccountNamespace 'primarydomain.com' -OrganizationContact 'myprivatemail@domain.com' -Enabled $true

Shouldn't the "Application Identifier" and "Application URI" be populated after the above commands are executed?

I have verified the dns records with nslookup.

Get-FederationInformation : The discovery process returned the following results:
Type=Failure;Url=https://autodiscover.domain.com/autodiscover/autodiscover.svc;Exception=Domain isn't
federated.;Details=(Type=Success;Url=https://autodiscover.domain.com/autodiscover/autodiscover.svc;);

/Thank you.

Migration Options

Hi,

I have a customer which is running a hosted exchange product offered to their customers.

As Office365 came out its hard to make any profit out of hosting mailboxes and they have decided shut down their hosting service.

To do this they need to migrate customers to another mail hosting solution.

The plan is to use Office 365. But how can this be done easily?

They will need several instances of Office365 and the migration from the Exchange 2007 on-premise server will need to be xx users to one O365 instance and xx users to another instance.

If anyone have any suggestions on how to do this in the best way possible I would greatly appreciate it.

Brgds

Eric

Cannot move DirSync user - error "user object not found"

Hello,

I have a hybrid environment Exchange 2007 on-prem with a 2010 hybrid with ADFS and DirSync working fine.

I am currently moving users to my cloud environment however I have one user who is giving me the below error:

The operation couldn't be performed because object '<user primary SMTP>' couldn't be found on 'AMSPRDxxxxDC004.eurprdxx.prod.outlook.com'.
    + CategoryInfo          : NotSpecified: (0:Int32) [New-MoveRequest], ManagementObjectNotFoundException
    + FullyQualifiedErrorId : 48A1A04E,Microsoft.Exchange.Management.RecipientTasks.NewMoveRequest

The user appears to not be on the cloud AD servers, however the user is not new, and my dirsync is working fine. However when I run a get-user in the cloud I find the user, but, they are listed as a 'User' whereas all the users I have no issue moving (and the ones that are currently moving) are listed as 'MailUser'.

I've looked at DirSync and the failed items and I do not see this account listed. This user has no different settings in Exchange that I can see however I cannot force the user up. I've made changes to the object and run a manual sync but this has not fixed the problem.

I am reluctant to license the user in the cloud which is one 'trick' I have heard of as I believe this might create an additional mailbox in the cloud which is not what I want.

Can anyone advise me if I can convert this user object in the cloud from 'user' to 'mailuser' or help me solve my move failure error in general.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Dual migration

Hi,

I work for a company which has two exchange servers,

Exchange server 1 - Receives mail sent to john.smith@domaina.com

Exchange server 2 - (Mostly different users) Receives mail sent to sally.jones@domainb.com

Exchange server 1 has already been migrated to Office 365 and the users are connecting to those mailboxes. I would like to upload Exchange server 2 to the same Office 365 portal if possible, i.e. have all the Office 365 mailboxes administered through a single account.

Before I go ahead with this I have a questions

1. Some users uploaded to Office 365 also have an account on Exchange server 2 i.e.

Office 365 - john.smith@domaina.com

Exchange server 2 - john.smith@domainb.com

If I run the migration tool within Office 365 to upload Exchange server 2 mailboxes is there any chance it could overwirte a working Office 365 mailbox? {i.e. all details for John Smith are the same on Exchange server 2 (First name, Last name, Exchange alias) apart from the e-mail address.}

Thanks in advance

Exchange Hybrid Autodiscover best practice configuration?

$

Hello,

we are implementing Office 365 in a Hybrid deployment. Our old Exchange 2003 holds yet all of the Mailboxes, additionally we had deployed a new Exchange 2010.We already have an single name certificate for the Hybrid configuration.

What is best-practice for Autodiscover configuration?  Which Autodiscover URL should we configure on the Exchange 2010 and on the Public DNS? Do we need to publish Autodiscover to the Internet or can we use the Office 365 Autodiscover? If we need to publish it, can we use a already existing wildcard certificate "only" for Autodisover, because we already have a Hybrid certificate in place.

Hope you can help me...Thanks!

Hybrid deployment Edge Transport question

In the process of setting up a hybrid deployment. We want all mail to pass through an edge server in the perimeter network. We use a third party mail gateway for all inbound/outbound mail. Does the edge server need to be an Exchange Edge server or does it just need to be an edge server for mail routing?

Thanks,

Dave
